It's Raining!

Strange!  There is a season for rain in north India.  This is not it.  This is winter.  The season of dry cold and bitter chills.  Yet it's raining.  Do you know what?  I'm thrilled.  It's not as cold as it might have otherwise been.  I love the rain, moreover.  I always have.

Still, unusual weather conditions are to be dreaded here.  If you live in a house which is  not fit against the rain, you have a problem.  Then there's my husband, travelling Lucknow-wards in the train, like he does every evening.  He doesn't have a raincoat.  I hope it'll be cleared up by the time he gets out of the train.

I'm so glad that it started raining because today in my house they started using the 'angeeti', a small indoor fire which runs on coal.  I have a tendency towards asthmatic and bronchial illnesses so the 'angeeti' is not good news for me with its horrible fumes.  Well hopefully, this rain will banish it for a while.

Tomorrow is the first anniversary…

Sundays in my City (11)

When I first came out to India  sixteen years ago, Christmas Day was just a day like any other.  Government offices and schools closed down but the festivities never touched me, apart from when I went to Church.  Nowadays, what a difference.  The local shopping centre is beautifully decorated both inside and out and the television programmes and newspapers are too.

I love my Christmases here and some of the local food is so good and so much associate with Christmas that Christmas wouldn't feel complete without them.  I can't believe there has been such a turnaround in a few short years.

Don't look now but someone's watching us.  I'll fly first and you follow me after about thirty seconds.  We'll shake off that nosy so-and-so!

Roadworks - Still in Progress?

After what seems like about two years (more like six months) the roadworks are still going on outside my house.  It's like we live on a dirt track.  I think they're finally finishing up though.  The end may be in sight.  It's been such a nuisance.  The dust from digging seems to be floating in the air.  Take a rickshaw home and you bump all away down the road.

I clicked this picture of some men at work outside my house the other night.  The other night?  Don't ask me, I'm as mystified as you are.  Fascinating, isn't it?
